The CTET (Central Teacher Eligibility Test) is a national-level examination conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). Its primary purpose is to determine the eligibility of candidates for appointment as teachers for Classes 1 to 8 in central government schools (like Kendriya Vidyalayas – KVS and Navodaya Vidyalayas – NVS) and other schools across India that follow CBSE norms.

CTET Exam

The Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) is a national-level examination administered by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) twice a year to certify the eligibility of candidates for appointment as teachers. Its main purpose is to establish a uniform national standard for teacher quality, ensuring that individuals appointed for teaching Classes 1 to 8 possess the necessary aptitude, knowledge of pedagogy, and skills to deliver quality education. The examination is divided into two parts: Paper I for Primary Teachers (Classes I-V) and Paper II for Elementary Teachers (Classes VI-VIII).

Eligibility:

  • Nationality: Must be an Indian citizen (or a subject of Nepal/Bhutan).

  • Age Limit: There is No Upper or Lower Age Limit to appear for the CTET examination.

  • Educational Qualification: Requires 10+2 with D.El.Ed. (for Paper 1) OR a Graduation Degree with B.Ed. (for Paper 2) from an NCTE-recognized institution.

Exam Pattern

Paper 1  (Primary Teacher: Classes I to V)

This paper is mandatory for candidates aspiring to teach Classes 1 to 5. It consists of five compulsory sections:

  • Total Questions: 150 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) in each paper.

  • Total Marks: 150 marks in each paper.

  • Marking Scheme: +1 mark for every correct answer. There is NO negative marking.
